Meet the Perfumers Behind Bath & Body Works’ Brand-New Fruit Fusion Franchise

To create the fragrances in Bath & Body Works’ newest franchise, Fruit Fusion, the team partnered with longtime collaborators from some of the world’s most prestigious fragrance houses, including Givaudan, DSM-Firmenich, MANE and Symrise. What began with something simple, fruit, quickly evolved into something more layered, expressive and unexpected.

Fruit Fusion goes beyond capturing scent. It is about translating vivid, sensory memories into something you can wear, from the comfort of childhood treats to the brightness of freshly picked fruit and the warmth of sunshine on your skin. The franchise launches with four vibrant, fruit-forward fragrances, Watermelon Whirl, Tangerine Twirl, Berry Bliss and Banana Blend. Each scent is available across a full range of juicy, hydrating body care and captivating fragrance.

For Christine Hassan, perfumer at Givaudan, the inspiration for Banana Blend came from a simple and personal memory, drinking banana smoothies as a child. She returned to the feeling those moments evoked, warmth, comfort, and carefree joy. While banana is often used as a supporting note in fragrance, Christine set out to place it at the center. "I wanted to capture that sense of playful nostalgia while translating it into something modern and elevated," she says. The result is a scent that balances creamy, milky softness with the bright, ripe character of banana, creating something that feels both playful and elevated.

That idea of balance carries throughout the entire franchise. In Berry Bliss, perfumer Alexandra Monet at DSM-Firmenich set out to capture the experience of biting into sun-ripened fruit, juicy, vibrant and instantly uplifting. Rather than leaning overly sweet, she built the fragrance with clarity and dimension, layering bright fruits like pear, apple and blackcurrant with airy florals and soft musks. What emerges is a berry fragrance that feels both lively and refined, anchored by a harmonious blend of sweet berry, tart pomegranate and sheer woods.

That same interplay between realism and artistry comes to life in Watermelon Whirl, created by Gino Percontino and Patricia Choux at MANE. Watermelon, they explain, is deceptively complex, at once watery and green, sugary and bright. Capturing all those facets required a highly technical approach, including the use of watermelon Headspace, which is a technique that captures the scent of a living fruit exactly as it smells in nature, giving perfumers a way to recreate the fruit’s crisp, fresh character. "It's vibrant, addictive, and feels like summer on your skin," the perfumers say. The final fragrance feels as refreshing as a perfectly ripe slice on a summer day, bright, effortless and full of energy.

For Tangerine Twirl, inspiration is rooted in a specific place and moment. Perfumer Laure Breysse at Symrise drew from her time in Paraty, Brazil, recalling the experience of peeling a tangerine after a swim, with salt in the air, sun on her skin and the fruit bursting with sweetness and light. "My hair was still wet from the ocean and the air smelled like salt and sun," she recalls. That memory became the foundation for a fragrance designed to capture joy and escapism. While citrus notes are often fleeting, she approached the composition by layering multiple facets throughout, ensuring the scent remains vibrant and radiant from the first spray through the dry down.

Taken together, these fragrances tell a larger story shaped by memory, emotion and craft. What feels simple at first is the result of careful artistry, balancing notes, building dimensions and using innovative ingredients to capture the feeling of fruit as much as its smell.
